Can speed be used with a rotary or is it better to use a da?

The technically correct answer is "yes", but the issue you can run into when using a rotary with any cleaner/wax is heat.

Rotary polishers have the ability to create heat a lot faster than orbital polishers and when the wax components, (or sealant components), get warm or hot they can become sticky or difficult to wipe-off.

If you use a low RPM and softer pads like foam polishing and foam finishing pads, they you should be okay.

I think flat pads are the way to go for all foam pad rotary work except for maybe cutting. For real cutting, I would use a wool pad.

But give it a try and be sure to keep your pad clean.
