In regards to my post about 'real' coatings VS spray on sealants, the Forum member who was asking has decided to let his older coating "stand" and not top it or have the coating redone. Knowing that traffic film is an issue even with a 'real' coating, should I recommend to him to use something like Meg's Cleaner Wax (purple consumer bottle) to clean any traffic film off and 'reset' so to speak his coating. I don't think that something as mild as Meg's CW would adversely affect the coating, but I wanted your opinion before I said anything to him. Too, the cleaner wax shouldn't last long enough to 'mask' his coating's performance significantly.

It just makes me feel funny when someone with a coating thinks all they have to do is wash it or use a "Strip Wash" to maintain the coating and doesn't take traffic film build up into account.

Here's my take; using a cleaner/wax even a light cleaning cleaner/wax will remove the coating.

I always put things in extremes... like this,

Will using a cleaner/wax over a ceramic coating ADD more coating? The answer is no. What then is the opposite of the word add?

Remove.

One of the things I practice and teach others in my car detailing classes is to match the LSP to both the person and the car.

For some cars, a conventional wax or sealant is the right way to go and same goes for people.

This forum buddy of yours might just consider switching his entire car over to a simple one-step product.

p.s.

I changed your Sig Line and reduced the size of your Camaro picture. I also hit the [ENTER] key twice to force you name over the top of the image instead of to the side of it. Displays better.

I've never been a fan of pictures in Sig Lines because they tend to disrupt the theme of the thread.

For example - every time I see you large size photo of your Camaro at the bottom of one of your posts my mind automatically thinks the thread is about a Camaro. I have to purposefully "think" out of that thought train.

:)

Thanks, I was about to remove the pic, because it was kind of big & I didn't know how to shrink it.

Looks MUCH better this way!

I'm getting the impression that he's really taken with the "XXX years of protection" a coating gives and wouldn't be one to use a sealant that every couple of months or seasonally should be reapplied to maintain it at full effectiveness.

I use Easy Thumbnails. Been using this softare to resize photos without warping them for probably 15+ years. I have two articles on how to set it up, just use Sknynet and a few key words like Easy Thumbnails Mike Phillips Article and it should pull right up.

It's completely possible for a ceramic coating to protect the paint for X-amount of years.

The "problem" is one of perception. People think LASTING a long time also means LOOKING GOOD a long time and that's not the case.

:)

Mike ... that WAS a thumbnail pic, :) I've been using Easy Thumbnails since way back when you suggested it on either Meguiar's On Line or Auto Geek. I would never had been able to post pics to any of the forums I'm on if I hadn't
