Here's a few pictures of this project.
Sanding Supplies
I'll be wet sanding with the Eagle Abrasives K2500 sanding papers, Meguiar's E-7200 Flexible Hand backing pad.
I'll refine via machine dry sanding using Eagle Abrasives K-3000 using the FLEX PXE-80 with the 6mm drive unit
If there's enough time, I'll show refining with 3M Trizact 5000 grit - damp sanding
RUPES & FLEX Tools
For this project I'll be using a combination of tools from FLEX and RUPES. Pictures below with the METRIC backing plate is the PROTOTYPE PE-150 Cordless Rotary Polisher FLEX sent me in the year 2017 - it's STILL going STRONG. Next to the FLEX is the RUPES Mark V BigFoot 15 Cordless Orbital Polisher.
All buffing pads will be the EdgeGuard pads by Buff and Shine
NSP CoreCut
For the compounding step, I'll be using the new Dr. Beasely's CoreCut NSP Primer. I'll do the polishing steps using NSP 150 and final finish polishing with NSP 45. After that I'll install the Nano-Resin MX Ceramic Coating.
With the Rhopoint Coating Thickness Gage, the paint on the roof measures 564 microns.
564 microns is 22 mils for those more used to thinking of paint measurements in mils
The Rhopoint Detailometer
I've taken and photo-documented the BEFORE readings taking by the Detailometer. I'll take readings for the AFTER results and share here.
Orange Peel
When you read or hear someone talking about removing Orange Peel, what they are talking about is sanding car paint to level or flatten the Orange Peel. Then after the sanding steps, you compound and polish to remove the sanding marks and this is how you create a true, show car finish. The goal is to max-out the D.O.I., which means Distinction of Image. A mirror has 100% D.O.I.
This is what Orange Peel looks like fresh out of the paint booth.
