Lets hope a lot of other people see this thread moving into the future and because of it - don't do the acid technique on glass. I've never been a fan of this approach when I know how to do both topical and sub-surface glass polishing.





Yes, I think the NSP GL will do the trick. The staining or etching you see is going to be mostly topical, but even if it is penetrated INTO the glass, the Dr. Beasley's NSP GL Glass Polish works both for topical glass polishing and sub-surface glass polishing.

Most important - at this point, you don't have anything to lose.

Here's the link to the products you'll need. You will also need some type of polisher. A rotary works best but any orbital that can maintain pad rotation will work.

You are correct. Acid should not be used on glass, although I’ve used it before with no issues (never sprayed directly though)

I've seen a lot of people talk about and recommend using wheel acid or other types of acid to clean windows. I'm not saying they're' wrong or they don't know what they are doing, but if they ever publicly recommend to the masses to do like they do - they ought to include some safety recommendations as well as some step-by-step how-to directions. I always do these minimal things.

I grew up detailing cars in Oregon where it rains a lot. I learned right away, when detailing a car, machine polishing the glass was always a part of the job. In Oregon it rains a lot and 99.9% of all daily drivers are goingn to have water spots, drizzle stains and road film on the glass as well as the paint. You cannot do all the paint correction and give back a car with shiny paing but all this crud still on the glass. This also were I developed and implmented the practice of machine polishing the glass BEFORE washing the car. (topical glass polishing). 40+ years later, it's still my practice and what I teach in all my classes.

Update:

After only polishing for about 30 min, I can say I got 98% streak/etch removal. I’m impressed.

I’m going to give it a few more passes but man this thing works. Used my DeWALT rotary buffer @ 2600 rpm, had my wife spray some water on glass periodically. Easy work, highly recommend if you run into a similar issue.

I hit it again today to see if I can get 100% of the streaks out. Looks like it was worth the extra time. I have a few more before and after pictures.

There will be a free glass polishing class here at our Stuart facility on Friday, October 31st.


Basically doing what you see me doing in this article only to a 1964 Corvette.

Thank you. I try to write an article or create a video that would make it easy for ME to figure out what to do, I figure if it works for me, it will probably work for anyone like me. :)

One thing for sure, it is time-consuming, but if the information is accurate, it will usually hold up over time, even a long time.
