53 Pictures - Matte Paint Detailing Class - Dr. Beasley's and Mike Phillips

Saturday, September 23rd, Matte Detailing Class in Stuart, Florida at the Dr. Beasley's O.R.
The goal for this class was to learn how to install a matte ceramic coating to matte paint to make money detailing cars or simply know how to detail your own matte finished car. We had 4 stellar people attend this class and 2 super cool matte finished SUVs for hands-on training.

Here's Shawn, an alumni student from our glossy paint detailing classes applying the Dr. Beasley's Matte Paint Coating Pro to the hood of the Genisis.

Matte Paint Coating Pro Kit
For this first training SUV we're using the Dr. Beasley's Matte Paint Coating Pro Kit

Matte Paint Coating Pro Kit

A breakthrough in ceramic coating technology, the Matte Paint Coating Pro Kit is the first ever self-healing, long-lasting, 100% solids ceramic coating for matte paint. Keep your matte paint looking new with 5+ years of protection against fine scratches, contaminants, and UV fading. Get the kit today!

Maintains Appearance
A quick primer on matte finishes: they get their flat appearance from the way light reflects off the microscopic imperfections in their surface. Most ceramic coatings fill in these imperfections, creating a gloss that totally ruins the muted look. Realizing this, we formulated Matte Paint Coating Pro to instead adhere to the imperfections, preserving the matte sheen while still providing ultra-durable protection.

Self-Heals Minor Scratches
Matte Paint Coating Pro’s elastomeric technology makes it a cut above our original Matte Paint Coating, durability-wise. Here’s how it works: Matte Paint Coating Pro creates a cross-linked bond to build an elastomeric nanostructure that flexes and self-heals. So when you have Matte Paint Coating Pro installed on your vehicle, minor abrasions will even themselves out over time without the need for a heat gun, plus your coating will flex with your body panels so they won’t buckle under minor distortion. Matte Paint Coating Pro doesn’t just resist – it bounces back.

5-Year Durability
While our original Matte Paint Coating had a solid longevity, Matte Paint Coating Pro is truly in it for the long haul. With a fully inorganic 100% solids formula, prep product to ensure proper bonding, and an elastomeric nanostructure, Matte Paint Coating Pro is absolutely built to last. We stand by this technology firmly, so we warranty authorized installations for 5 years. With regular cleaning and occasional maintenance, your coating will continue to perform for years on end.

What This Kit Includes

(1) Matte Paint Coating Pro – 1 oz
(1) Matte Paint Coating Pro Prep – 2 oz
(1) Foam Block Applicator
(2) Suede Cloths
(2) Pipettes

Wet-on-Wet Ceramic Matte Coating Application
As an option, after a very thorough washing and rinsing process, AFTER THE FINAL RINSE - while there is still standing clean water on the vehicle, you can install the Dr. Beasely's Matte Coatings. Of course in a perfect world you would do this inside, for example if you have an indoor wash bay, but it can be done outside like you see here.

Work in the shade
It's vitally important to always wash and coat matte paint in the shade, out of direct sunlight. We're lucky in that the front of our shop has full shade until around noon so we have plenty of time to tackle this project. I

Matte Paint Coating Extreme Prep Wash
This is a multiple-step process for washing a matte finished car to remove any contamination off the matte paint and to ensure the matte paint is surgically clean and ready for the coating installation.

Process
  1. Foam and allow Dr. Beasley's Matte Paint Body Wash to dwell - but don't let the suds dry on the paint.
  2. Rinse to remove any loosened dirt and grime.
  3. Re-foam a second time then do a full but careful contact wash with clean, inspected wash mitts.
  4. Thorough rinse.
  5. Dry paint.
  6. Apply Matte Paint Decon to one panel at a time - allow to dwell for 2-3 minutes without drying on the paint and then wipe dry with a clean microfiber towel.
  7. Final full contact wash.
  8. Final thorough rinse.

Here's Shawn rinsing off the foam after allowing it to dwell first.

EGO 3200 PSI Pressure Washer
A shout-out and thank you to Chris Metcalf at FLEX and EGO for supporting our educational and hands-on car and boat detailing classes. Chris knows that at our classes, the students get LOTS of hands-on time with FLEX and EGO tools.

Matte Decon
After foaming, rinsing, foaming, washing, rinsing and then drying, it's time to apply the Dr. Beasley's Matte Decon to remove any road grime or other surface contamination.

After spraying the Matte Decon onto a section of the roof, next Jon spread the product evenly over the paint using a small, clean microfiber towel pre-saturated with the Matte Decon and then after allowing the product to dwell for 2-3 minutes, but never drying on the surface, he wipes the excess off with a separate clean, microfiber towel.

Matte Paint Coating
After the team treated each body panel with the Matte Decon and the re-washed and thoroughly rinsed the Hyundia Santa Fe, with the clean standing water still on the vehicle, it's time to install the Dr. Beasley's Matte Paint Coating.

Here's Angel applying Matte Paint Coating to the matte paint and also the entire roof. You can use matte paint coating both matte and smooth sufaces like paint, glass and plastic.

Certificate Award Ceremony
After both SUVs were completed, it's time for the certificate award ceremony. Some people love getting a certificate from the detailing classes and besides the beautifully designed and detailed certificate, the students can also share this write-up, which documents their taking of the class plus they snag any pictures they want to share on their own social media platforms.

Class Questions Recap
I always give due credit where credit is due. I never share things I've learned from others without sharing where I obtained the information. Here's a technique I learned from Jason Rose probably over a decade ago. The technique or practice is to start the class by asking each person, what are the key things or key take-aways they want to get from the class. Genius.

Matte Class Questions Whiteboard
Here's an old school dry erase board that I have on the wall in our training garage. Forgive my poor writing style, this is why I'm a typist. :)

Before the class started, I wrote each person's name on the white board and then asked each person, what are the most important things you want to learn in this class. Then at the end of the class we go through the list and ask each person if we successfully answered all their questions. The goal is to achieve 100% and I'm happy to say, we reached the goal.

Pizza Lunch Reward
We had a cold spell moving though Stuart, Florida and temperatures dropped down to 50 degrees. For this reason, we started inside with the Genisis GV70, which I washed the day before to allow some time to go by so it would warm-up a little. In other words, these guys earned their lunch!

On a personal note...

I appreciate all four of these men for travelling to Stuart, Florida to take this class. I especially would like to thank Jon West, who drove here all the way from Colorado to take this class!

I also appreciate that everyone was careful to never rub too hard when working through the various products and processes so as NOT to create a shiny spot. Thank you!

Class Schedule for 2025
This was the last class for our Stuart, location. If you find you're the type of person that learns better by doing versus sitting in a chair, then clear your schedule, make your travel plans and get signed-up for a future class.

Ohhh...I think that class would have been worth it just for the pizza!

I'm trying to wrap my head around if you got a scuff on one of these vehicles--you wouldn't be able to polish it because then you would have a shiny spot there? And therefore any routine polishing like you would do on a "shiny" car is out?

Big Apple here in Stuart does it right. That said, the best pizza I've ever eaten was at a pizza place in downtown Chicago while I was there last April for the 5-day detailing class Chris Racana organized. Chris is also somewhat of a food expert, and he told us the most we could eat of this deep, dish pizza was 2 slices and after that, you would be in Food Comatose. I can vindicate what he said. The good news is, they can and will ship out-of-state. Probably not as good as being there in person but it was truly to die for.

PEQUO'S PIZZA - Chicago's Best Deep Dish Pizza

The pizza on the right is the pizza myself and the other Caveman at the table ordered. I don't remember who ordered the pizza on the left. I did one of those DNA tests a few years ago, the results came back that I'm 100% Caveman.

Correct. You can never machine polish matte or satin because it removes the texture and creates a smooth surface, and this makes the paint look glossy.

Matte paints are a double-edged sword. You never have to do any paint correction, for example spending 5-6 hours compounding an SUV like you see in the pictures above because the paint is filled with swirls and scratches. So no buffing. The other side of the sword is you have to be SUPER CAREFUL in any way you touch the paint and this means anything you use to touch the paint.

For most of us, we touch paint 3 ways.

1: Wash Mitts
2: Drying Towels
3: Microfiber Wiping Towels

So it's imperative to always inspect these items before use to make sure there are no embedded contaminants like sticks, rocks, dead bugs, etc. that can and will scratch the matte paint if rubbed over the surface.

Me? I saw a matte black Lexus RX350 at the airport a few months ago and I thought it looked incredible.

LOL, that had me laughing for a few minutes!

Makes me laugh every time I share it. I've actually NEVER done one of the popular DNA tests and I'm thankful after hearing how one of them had their database hacked. Not sure everything the hackers could get but I still wouldn't want my DNA being shared across the Dark Web.
