I have bought a 21 Lexus with aluminum trim in the interior, console and door panels. I have never had a car with this type of trim before. How do I clean, and what can I coat this trim with to protect enhance appearance ?
Thanks in advance!

Hi John,

I don't remember seeing new cars with aluminum trim instead of piano plastic or fake wood grain?

My guess is it's anodized - just a guess. If Lexus had the aluminum anodized this means it would resist oxidation and for the most part maintain whatever finish appearance you see now into the future.

If it's not anodized, and not clearcoated with paint of some other type of film - then it would be bare aluminum and this means it will oxidize. Because the masses wouldn't know how to deal with oxidizing aluminum inside an upscale car I'm going to guess it's either anodized or some other chemical treatment or coating has been used to preserve the finish appearance.

If it were me? I would do some research on a Lexus FB group or forum and see if someone else has already figured out what it is and how to best maintain it. It would be nice but also a Pipe Dream to be able to contact Lexus and ask them what it is but my experience with dealerships as all they're good at is getting people into a cubicle with a closer to sign on the dotted line.

If it is anodized or coated in some fashion - my guess is any quality ceramic or graphene coating would help. Probably won't hurt that's for sure. My other guess is that just keeping it clean and avoid scratching it and it should hold up as long as any other surface inside the car.

Don't know if the above helped? Congratulations on the new-to-you Lexus. I'm a Lexus fan myself, kind of like the RX350 SUV's for their dependability and sporty looks. The LC, LC Convertible and the LFA are all drool-worthy too. :)
