Just inspect the engine compartment very carefully for any sensors, electronics, etc.
If in doubt, cover-over and protect anything of concern and then take your time and use common sense.
You can also Google Engine Detailing and then add the year, make and model of the vehicle. It's completely possible someone has done this and created either a video or a how-to article.
