The Future of Detailing 2-Day Auto Detailing Class is comprehensive hands-on auto detailing certification course taught by detailing legends Jason Rose and Mike Phillips that takes place inside the fully equipped and air-conditioned in-house restoration shop at the American Muscle Car Museum in Melbourne, Florida.

Nutshell Version of Topics Covered include:
  • Multiple-Step and 1-Step AIO Paint Correction
  • Proper Ceramic Coating Application
  • Hand Wet Sanding to Remove Orange Peel and Level Surface Texture
  • Machine Sanding to Refine Hand Sanding Marks
  • Rotary & Orbital Polishers for a True Show Car Finish

Indepth Course Outline
This course certifies students in the advanced exterior auto detailing processes necessary to produce high quality results when detailing cars professionally or as a hobby. The objective of this course is to restore real neglected automotive paint finishes using different levels of aggression to produce results ranging from production to show car quality. Skill level: Beginner to Enthusiast/Professional

Day 1: Multi-Step & 1-Step Paintwork Correction

Morning Session - Multiple-Step or Show Car Paintwork Correction

After prepping the vehicle, students will learn the proper processes necessary to complete a multi-step or show car paintwork correction. A multi-step paintwork correction is commonly done on vehicles that require heavy defect removal and don’t require fast results. Students will use Nano Surface Primers with rotary polishers and wool pads followed by orbital polishers with foam pads to complete a multi-step paintwork correction on the vehicle, restoring a show car finish.

Topics covered include:
  • Visual Paint Inspection using inspection lights.
  • Tactical Paint Inspection using baggie test.
  • Mechanical Decontamination with Clay Bars, Mitts & Towels.
  • Paint Thickness Gauges.
  • Rotary & Orbital Polishers.
  • Wool & Foam Pads.
  • Test Spot Procedure.
  • RUPES Compounds & Polishes.
  • Dr. Beasley's Nano Surface Primers.
  • Short Cycling Plus How To Do a Proper Section Pass.
  • Rotary and Orbital Polishing Techniques.
  • Proper Ceramic Coating Application.
  • Following completion of the multi-step paintwork correction, students will apply a professional ceramic coating to protect the paint and enhance gloss.

Afternoon Session - One-Step or Production Paintwork Correction
For the afternoon session, students will learn the proper processes necessary to complete a one-step or production paintwork correction to neglected paint. A one-step paintwork correction is commonly done on vehicles that either require fast results or don’t require a great deal of defect removal. Students will use Nano Surface Primers with orbital polishers and foam pads to complete the one-step paint work correction.

Day 2: Removing Orange Peel via Hand Wet Sanding & Machine Wet Sanding
The second day of this course builds on the skills taught the day previous. Students will learn two paintwork correction techniques:
Hand Wet Sanding using Nikken Finishing Papers to Remove Orange Peel and Level Surface Texture (typically reserved for show car work)
Machine We Sanding to Refine Hand Sanding Marks for Safer and Faster Defect Removal
All-in-One or AIO paintwork correction (typically used in production work). Students will use this knowledge to complete paintwork correction on real test vehicles.

Graduation Ceremony
Following completion of the last car, students will participate in a graduation ceremony with an opportunity for a photo with Jason and Mike as well as a group photo in front of the vehicles detailed by the class. Individual framed certificates will be mailed out from our headquarters in Chicago following the class.

Wow, that sounds incredible!

I've taught at least 2 car detailing classes with Jason Rose after we both left Meguiar's. 1 class was at Autogeek and sad to say, the pictures are all now missing. This is what happens when you switch forum software, you lose pictures. A lot of pictures still show up, but a lot of pictures are gone forever.

And the really sad thing about the missing pictures is a PURPOSEFULLY brought in 2 VERY DIFFERENT shaped cars for this RUPES class.

1: 1966 Chevelle (black), which has very large and flat body panels - great training for RUPES tools.

2: 1948 Ford Coupe Streetrod - (gray with flames), which has VERY CURVY body panels for great training with RUPES tools.

Interestingly enough, I used the 1948 Ford for a recent class. It was sold over the years and the new owner lives in my hometown. Remarkably, the two owners took pretty good care of the paint and thus it only had light swirls and scratches. For this reason, I used this car for teaching 1-Step AIO Paint Correction and let the students use ANY TOOL OF THEIR CHOICE - including free spinning random orbital polishers.

Scroll down this thread and you'll see the class working their magic on the 1948 Ford.

The other was at RUPES in Colorado when they first opened their new training center.

For the Colorado class, even though I live 2000 miles away, I was able to secure two very cool training cars for this class.

So sad the geek team couldn't save the tens of thousands of pictures I took, processed, uploaded and inserted into thousands of threads.

Getting to shiny
We have different teaching styles as well as different opinions on how to detail, but at the end of the day, we both get to shiny and so do our students and that's the big picture goal.

I've taught a total of 3 classes at the American Muscle Car Museum and Ed Dedick, the Operations Manager for the AMCM. Here's the link to one of them,

And I'm honored to say, the owner of The American Muscle Car Museum sent Ed and Jerry from the American Muscle Car Museum to one of my big 3-day classes. Ed is on my right, and Jerry is on Ed's right in the picture below. All these classes took place at what Autogeek's special management staff called wasted space. (the Show Car Garage), and look where there at today. LOL

I'm pretty sure I'm the only person that teaches car and boat detailing classes that SHOWS what you get to work on BEFORE you pay for the class. All other classes? Cross your fingers and hope I guess.

The first ticket for this upcoming class in May was just sold and I'm confident this class is going to sell out.
