LIVE Detailing Class - Extreme Headlight Restoration via Hand Sanding and Machine Sanding - Wednesday January 29th
Starting at 4:00pm Eastern Time, we're going to show 2 methods for sanding EXTREMELY oxidized and yellowed headlights on a 2003 Toyota 4Runner Sport. At the time I'm typing this class announcement, this SUV has 289,000 miles on her and she still runs great. The paint and exterior plastic trim are hammered as are the headlights. The owner plans to drive this truck as long as possible and while there's no plans to repaint, or replace plastic trim, it is important for safety reasons to be able to see clearly down the road while driving at night.
Because these headlights are so bad and also very large, these headlights will work great to teach 2 different techniques to restore them to factory new.
Hand Sanding - Passenger Side
For the passenger's side headlight, we're going to show how to hand sand using sandpapers you can purchase at Harbor Freight. After sanding we'll show how to remove the sanding marks, polish to maximize clarity and then seal with a plastic, headlight ceramic coating.
Machine Sanding with a Rotary Polisher - Driver's Side
For the driver's side headlight, we're going to show how to machine sand the FAST way, using a rotary polisher with 3" Mirka Abralon sanding discs. After sanding we'll show how to remove the sanding marks, polish to maximize clarity and then seal with a plastic, headlight ceramic coating.
