Hello everyone, I detailed a Honda CRV yesterday. After my test spot, I used flex Supa beast and rupes yellow pad with 3D speed. Topped with Bead it up.

I was able to remove 75 to 85 percent of the swirls. What would you consider the hardness of this paint?

I detail on side and still fairly new to detailing. I’m self taught and learn from forums like this and hands on learning from cars I detail.

Thanks for the reply.

Off hand - I would say the paint is on the medium to hard side and probably closer to medium.

Lots of variables - especially for anyone new to machine paint correction. Downward pressure, arm speed being the 2 more influential factors in context of the tool, pad and product used.

It was a 2018 CRV.

Speed 6, 6 section passes, downward pressure was slightly more than just my hand resting on polisher, and arm speed was intermediate and slightly faster for last section pass.

Thanks Mike, at least this gives me an idea on paint hardness and I can learn from here as I do more polishing.

I answered the question,

How can you tell hard paint from soft paint?

No one really likes or appreciates the answer but it's true and accurate.

The only way to truly know if a paint is hard or soft is via experience.
