I was asked about services on a newly purchased vehicle to address the dull paint finish on this 2012 Mazda -3. I was able to inspect and found the paint in various conditions but saw what I thought was clear coat failure hazing and then the paint was just dull from sun exposure. I had to make a second trip the following day to bring in my paint thickness gauge and my FLEX PXE to do a test spot (if the paint was not too far gone).

As seen the paint read just over 4.0 mils in the dull sections and various higher levels where the car had been repainted (a cheap job).

I used a two step polish with 3D 510 and 520 wanting to give it some shine if possible. The test spot did give hope and so I quoted based upon the goal of being a paint enhancement (ideally 1-step).

My question: To make this a quick does anyone have thoughts of a AIO such as 3D Speed or 505 or similar products that might give good results as a 1-step polish. That way the other sides of car will have a light touch but not require the boost on the dull sections?

Hi Kirby,

The ONLY thing I would do for a car with paint like this is an AIO like 3D SPEED. Don't aim for perfection, aim for good. Then share with the owner how to take care of what's left of the paint moving forward with careful washing and some type of maintenance product like 3D Bead It Up.
