REVIEW - The 8 inch LONG FIBER 4 Ply 100 Percent Twisted Wool Cutting Pad by Mike Phillips
Recently, my friend Wes at Lake Country sent me some long fiber, 1 1/2" inches to be exact to test out. I've always been a fan of the 1 1/4" because these perform the best as compared to 3/4" and 1" but I wanted to revisit the 1 1/2" pads.
Here's my review. I like the REACH the longer fibers provide when buffing difficult areas. See pictures below. When it comes to buffing flat surfaces, it's not that I didn't like the reach for buffing flat panels, it's just not a needed feature and with the longer length of the fibers sticking out way past the actual pressure point on the outer edges of the pad - it kind of block a little bit of your view. Again, not a big deal, just my observation.
Next Friday, Yancy and I are shooting a brand new video on how-to use a rotary polisher and I'll be talking about this long fiber wool pad and a host of types of pads, so stay tuned.
Here are some examples that show what I mean when I say REACH.
The above pictures are part of a full wetsand, dry sand, cut and polish I did to the paint on a 1960 Cadillac Limousine Custom. Besides being lead on the wet sanding team at Meguiar's when we sanded and buffed the Meguiar's Show Trucks, (Semi Trucks), this is the largest car I've ever sanded and buffed and I've sanded and buffed a lot of cars over the decades.
