Glidecoat RPL is a good alternative topper. Glidecoat is based in Florida and thought he product is designed to help with soot exhaust stains etc. and make removal easier, they also tested it with love bugs with good success for ease of removal.
I just started installing it. I have three year old PPF on the front of my vehicle and it's still smooth. PPF self-heals for the most part. If installed correctly, you won't see any difference unless you do a partial. Then you see the edge across the hood/fenders.

I had Sport-Tek polo's embroidered. They wick really well and stay dry, and are very comfortable and cool while working indoors or out. They look professional, and are good for working in.
