1967 Pontiac Firebird - "BLACKFIRE"

I did an interior detail, and corrected this 1967 Pontiac Firebird with BF One Step, and topped with BF BlackICE.

I did the interior the first day and came back the next day and worked on it from just after 5 in the morning until just before or after 3 in the morning the following day. Also this is the new shop I'll be detailing at now in Newcastle Oklahoma.

I'm am old Pontiac guy so I love the car... Can't say the same for the two-tone color scheme but otherwise it's really nice.

Thanks brother! the color scheme was a creative risk in my opinion. I know your a paint expert. Let's hear it! how should I paint my 67' Firebird when I get one? I always love hearing your opinions and facts. I also have an affinity for Pontiacs.

Early on I did a lot of custom/complex/multi-color paint designs. As time went on I found that I would tire of the design, even though it was something that I really liked at the time it was created. Kind of like John Lennon when he said he "hated his rock n roll" (paraphrased) when referring to some of his earlier Beatles works. Going forward, my preference shifted to simpler accents or stripes or even just one straight color with the emphasis being on the perfect "like glass" finish.

As for the subject Firebird my preference would be either of the black, or the burnt orange, over the entire car.

Two-tones were very popular on some 1950s and early 1960s cars and the body styles wore them well. As body styles changed two-tones just didn't fit although a few manufacturer's still tried on occasion.

That said, I perfectly understand differing perspectives... Different strokes for different folks.

Thanks brother! That car was probably my most fun and rewarding detail to date. A very good friend of mine hired me for the job. As a thank you to one of his customers, and as a way to help me, he had me detail that car. He really passed a blessing on to both of us that I'll never forget!

I thought about some different paint schemes I'd choose.

One that I thought of was a two tone black with a beautiful metallic blue. Because blue is my wife's favorite color. I'd choose some type of metallic midnight blue. I love metallic paint because it reminds me of the sparkle in my wife's eyes.

With the way that the black turned out on the car, especially for just a one step. I'd also choose black for one solid color, or either a dark metallic blue or green.

And investing in the BEAST... smart. No wasted time with pad stalling and the largest orbit stroke gear-driven tool option on the market.

Now that you've been using it for a while I'm sure you completely understand why it's my first choice of polisher when I want to do the job right and get it done fast.

Thanks Mike! One lady told me that car looked as if it should belong in a glass bubble! You can't beat compliments like that.

I really enjoyed being able to buzz the polisher over the bright work. It made it shine like none other!

The BEAST is in fact my favorite polisher, and I'm really happy I invested in the HD variant with the 25' cord. I'm getting much better edging with the polisher and learning to hold it so I can get into tight areas. I am learning, as you say, to make it, "Dance on paint..."

The self teaching effect of the polisher has made it so that I now instinctually hold the pad flat on the surface, and I have no issues with fighting the polisher. It truly is a tool that feels natural in my hands.

I love my BEAST! I should probably buy a couple more, and I'm looking forward to collecting more FLEX polishers, and Rupes polishers as well, but the BEAST will always be my favorite!

It was a real pleasure! As far as I know they were happy. I believe that car sat in a garage for a few years before I had the opportunity to work on it. I sure hope I can get some more like that! Thanks brother!
