Ceramic coating

Thanks to Mike and learning from videos and forums, purchased a Griots G9 and have prepped and used an AIO on several cars and prepped and applied a ceramic coating on several cars.

Coated a black Acura SUV and a Toyota with

CARPRO CQUARTZ UK 3.0

Was satisfied with application and CQuartz has continued to look good. Used CarPro products for prep and toppings.

Next endeavor will be my son’s’ black Honda Odyssey. Have thought that would continue to use CQuartz due to familiarity, but am open to suggestion, if good longevity and ease of use?

Hi Jeff,

CarPro Cquartz UK 3.0 is a good product, been around for a long time. If you like it, keep using it. If you want to try something from the Dr. Beasley's lineup, I would recommend the Nano Resin MX. I'll be sharing a review as soon as I get a chance to process the pictures and type out the copy.

If I use the Nano Resin MX kit, which products are best for prep? (Presently have Car Pro products)

Would also like to know what temp (particularly low) can coating be applied. It is getting cooler in Indiana, we have a garage, not heated.

Hi Jeff,

If by "prep" you mean a panel wipe, any quality panel wipe can be used.

I spoke with Jim Lafeber today about using panel wipes and he said with our NSP 150, 95, 45 and Z1 you don't need to use a panel wipe and he recommends going straight to the application or installation of the coating.

Cquartz UK 3.0 is a great option for a coating. CarPro users have also used the UK3.0/SiC combo which will add slickness.

Gyeon Mohs Evo is another good option.

Keep in mind that Dr. Beasley's uses sheeting technology for their coatings rather than beading so don't expect that super tight water beading.

First, the best time to ceramic coat the paint is when the car is brand new. Mostly because it's FASTER to do the paint correction step because there shouldn't be any paint defects like swirls, scratches, oxidation or water spots to remove. And by coating now, you'll be taking the most important pro-active step to prevent paint defects.

As far as tips go,

1. Normal "careful" wash and dry. Make sure your wash mitt and any drying towels are not contaminated.
2. Use a foam "polishing" pad for NSP 45 Primer.
3. Wipe off immediately after buffing each section
4. Start at the top and work your way down and around for both the machine polishing step and also the coating step.
5. Apply the Paint Coating Builder and allow 2-3 minutes to pass then remove with using clean, uncontaminated microfiber towels.
6. Apply the MX Ceramic Coating only for this product - flash time is 30 seconds to a minute, then start leveling and removing.
7. Use a quality hand-held swirls finder light to inspect for high spots - if discovered, try to cannibalize with some fresh coating and remove the high spot. If you cannot re-liquify the high spot, then machine polish with the NSP 45 to remove and then redo the Paint Coating Builder and the MX steps.

Stand back and admire.

Yes. The coating can be used pretty much on any smooth, hard surface.
