So after 6 months of business detailing totally on my own in a rather serious manner I was given the opportunity to detail a boat. Something totally new and different for me. Despite having no knowledge of boats and what it takes to detail one I accepted the offer.
I thought “How bad could it be? It’s just a boat, I’ll wax it and call it a day”
Boy was I mistaken!
After a great conversation with Mike Phillips, with some (as always) informative and expert advice I had great confidence heading into this project.
I started off with Meguiars M50 One Step Cleaner Wax and a Green Foam Pad on my Rotary, which worked, but I was really working for it having to use high speeds and really lean into the machine to get the finish I wanted with the scratches and oxidation.
So I stepped it up to Meguiars M150 Ultra Cut Compound with a Wool Wheel via Rotary and that was giving me what I was looking for!
I hit the whole boat with that combo before heading back to the M50 & Foam for a finish.
Polished all chrome by hand, conditioned all leather by hand, Buffed up the glass with the Flex PiXiE and a 3” Pad as always and followed up the entire boat with a quick ceramic spray wax to remove any buffing or wax residue.
The results speak for themselves on this boat and I couldn’t be happier with the outcome, after 14 hours (4 of which are upside down on a creeper buffing the underside which can be quite physically demanding) we’ve got a “Like New” 2021 Cobalt CS22 25 Foot Boat, and a Very Happy Customer.
Very thankful for the opportunity to detail this boat and very thankful for the advice of Mike along the way.
Although my work is what I consider high quality, it would be nothing without the people giving me the opportunity to perform it, So always thank your customer for the business and never forget where you came from!

Thanks for reading.
