After years of using my Porter Cable DA, it is finally time for a new one, but there are just too many choices out there and I need some help. I am looking for something that would be less than $200 +/-. Many moons ago, I took some classes with Mike when he was with Meguiar's and at that time their pads were the thing. So my question now is, what DA and what pads for 2022?

What is a good polish only to use with the DA?

Nice to start detailing my cars again. Hope my body can handle it, I am not young any more :)

Jorze, I'm blessed with bad knees and weak legs..... I work out 3 times a week and ride a recumbent trike 70+ miles a week but they are what they are!

I was in the office chair world for 30 years. Forget the tiny Harbor Freight red round roller seat on tiny wheels.... first time a wheel catches in the expansion joint in your driveway or garage you'll flip over on it..... Been there done that!

Find a used office chair...the wheel base is 24"+ for better stability.
Go on ebay and buy a set of "rollerblade casters" they are a larger diameter and roll smoother and quiet.
They make lower cylinders to get you closer to the ground for wheel/tire scrubbing.

When polishing the sides you are now sitting at eye level at your "work". ..... unless you're working on a K5 Blazer like Mike has.... then you're bound to bump your head on a muffler!

Bottom line: your body will last a lot longer!

Welcome back. I know what you mean , I just turned 60 myself and it's the new 30 in my head.

Your going to get a lot of opinions, so here's mine; Griots G9. I have the older. GG2 version and it is a step above your Porter Cable as far as power. If your staying at one for under $200, there are a few more brands such as Maxshine, Adams, Harbor Freight, and more. But for the quality and warranty, it's hard to beat the Griots.

As far as pads to match one of these; you can stay with Griots. Lake Country's SDO, Thin Pro, or Flats. Buff n Shine Uro-Cell or Flats.

I hope this helps. I have the GG2, Maxshine 15mm Long Throw, Adams 12mm 3", Griots 3", and the Diavolo Mini (Rupes Hybrid) knock off. And I had to break down and get the Flex SupaBeast. I'm just a weekend warrior but love my toys. Yes I have an addiction. I've used them all except the SupaBeast and the Diavolo Mini and have no big issues overall. Due to a pinched nerve is why I have yet to use the Flex or Diavolo so I can't comment on them yet. But have read enough to know it was money well spend as far as cutting down buffing time.

There is no perfect machine out there. Just maybe near perfect. This is due to your physical makeup, ability, stamina, budget, quality of machine, and etc. But if your just doing your cars and maybe family and friends, you can't go wrong with the Griots G9. I can't say this from experience, but reading reviews and on forums anyone that has stepped up from the GG, GG2, or GG3, just rave about them.

Your Welcome. I'm sure Mike can give you a better incite on the buffers. Since he has used them hundreds of time in his classes. I hope to be able to take one some time in the future. Hopefully.....
