Hi All -

I’ve always wanted to know this. A long time ago (30+ Years Ago) I saw a detail center called something like “Ming Auto Beauty Center.” You would go get your new car “Minged” and then it would be shiny and protected for years. They said they smooth or level the paint so it’s even to reflect light for maximum shine. It cost like $250 - $500, something completely outrageous at the time.

I always thought it was marketing BS, Mumbo Jumbo. They went out of business in California (I think) but it looks like they still might have franchises in the Midwest or south. They had 3-Fold Brochures back in the day marketing their products.

Anybody have knowledge of these guys and what it was all about? I have stronger opinions than I’ve posted so far but I want to leave it open for all to post their knowledge and thoughts.

Thank you.

I "think" I remember seeing Ming Detail Shops in Oregon, but I could be wrong.

Whatever it was, back then the best thing going were synthetic paint sealants. Here's the deal, you wash, clay, buff and apply any sealant, and unless the products are junk, the car will be shiny. Then to keep in shiny, they probably had a maintenance program where you were encouraged to bring your car back for maintenance, or re-application of whatever the magic voodoo juice was.

Hi Mike -

Here’s the photos of one of the Ming 3-Fold Brochures I saw when I was 18, a long, long time ago. It’s specifically called the “Ming Mirror Finish.”

I remember in California it was “the thing” to get your new car “Minged.” I went to their local shop. When you read what they write it’s Mumbo Jumbo.
