The windshield has an exterior buildup that looks like rain paths in the paths of the wiper blades - they run vertically, not in the wiper arcs.

There's a distinct type of stain common to automotive glass called,
Drizzle Stains
Drizzle stains are stains that build-up on exterior glass windows that mimic the path streams of water run down the sides of the glass over extended periods of time.
These stain patterns appear when you wipe the glass with a glass cleaner like you see below.
The below picture is a copy of the above picture only I've highlighted a few of the drizzle stains using yellow lines.
The sun can cause extreme glare obscuring the road. I've tried clay bars, Dawn/vinegar, razor blade (left scratches), and got very slight results.
None of these will work. And please don't use STEEL WOOL on glass. I just read a post on a popular car detailing Facebook Group where I guy shared pictures of the
SCRATCHES he put into a customer's windshield taking all the social media experts recommendation to use steel wool. LOL
I'm thinking I need to properly polish the glass. I have an angle drill and a Bosch random orbit sander. What do you suggest?
I would spend the 60 bucks and get an actual car polisher like the cheapie at Harbor Freight and then get either a foam cutting pad or a microfiber pad and using any CLEARCOAT safe compound, machine polish the glass.
This is called TOPICAL GLASS POLISHING - it's removing traffic film, water spots and road grime off the SURFACE of the glass. If you do this and then wash the car, you can remove any splatter you sling arund the wiper arms etc.
The drill will work, just awkward to hold and guide over the glass. Most wood sanders will NOT maintain good pad rotation and good pad ocillation to make them worth using.
