Abit of background first, 2016 Chevy pickup, white, purchased new, cared for but never detailed until early June of this year.
My powered detail tool of choice is the PC7424XP, purchased back in 2013 or 14 I believe. The reason for doing so was for a well cared for boat I had purchased.
Used it a few times with only the 6 inch 1 1/2" PC pads, I recall the pad did turn here and there while using...(who knew? I didnt). Sold the boat, havent used the XP in about 4 or 5 years. I still have two of the PC pads in the package. (yes, I now know)
Fast forward to this spring and after a good friend bought a new truck I was rather envious and a wee bit jealous of the finish and slickness of the paint. I got home and looked mine over and felt it was time to address the exterior.
Time to get serious. For the very first time 'ever' I bought some car wash soap! I also picked up some Mother's stage 1 and 2 and a bottle of Meguiars Hybrid Ceramic Liquid wax from my local auto store and then did some googling...(yeah, should have googled first)
The AG site came up immediately and wow, detailing is not a simple wash and wax like I'd done for so many years, (I'm 60). I spent a few weeks reading and watching a few of the vids, I was fascinated by what Mike and so many other pro and weekend detailers on the site were accomplishing. Kudo's to all of you!!
Onward...I came up with a plan, I gave the truck a real good 2 bucket wash using Mr Pink, dried and followed with Mother's clay kit. Huh I thought, a difference in the finish already, smooth.
After reading much about paint cleaners on the site, I decided I would skip the Mothers stage 1 and go right to stage 2. From what I could tell I dont feel my paint needed much correction (very rarely washed) so I tested with an LC CCS white 5.5" pad. (yes indeed, I had picked up a 5" backing plate and some LC pads from an online retailer)
Looked great so I continued on until finished using all 3 of my pads. I cleaned the pad after each panel section with air compressor. What a difference in appearance, this detail stuff aint no joke. Amazing.
I then applied the HCW on the entire truck with a single LC flat black pad and wiped off nice and easy with a couple of MF towels.
I was/and still am truly impressed with how well it turned out. (Proud of myself even lol)
Anyway, my questions...I was wanting to ready the paint for winter sometime in October. I bought some WG Si02 that I'd like to apply at that time.
Now what I'm wondering is can I use CarPro Eraser after a good wash to aid in removing the HCW and then apply the WG sealant or must I do a machine polish first?
Or maybe simply refresh the Meguiar's HCW and wait til spring to do a full detail? (I'm sort of leaning that way).
I live quite a ways off the beaten path, 30 min from the hiway, plenty of snow and only sand is used on my road. The truck will not be washed until the melt is gone usually by early April. Oh, it always sits under a large carport until needed.
Alot of jabbering but I appreciate any insight.
