Single stage paint...water mark stains?

67 chevelle, single stage paint which was painted in the 80's. Im told theres not much paint left on the car from the friend who is a painter and has been around the car and cared for the car for many years.

Car had a car cover on it at one point and got wet. So it has these oxidized whiteish stains in certain spots. My friend says that if he compounds them they will go away. But when the car gets wet and it air drys before he wipes it dry the stains will reappear.

i mentioned megs #7 to which he said he has never heard of it.

So i applied it very liberally today and going to let it set for 24hrs and go from there.

End goal is to just clean it up, bring back some shine while preserving what paint is left. Will get a repaint some day but not anytime soon.

Test spot of supa beast white lc force pad with both 3d 505 and then 3d 520. 520 gave desired results without being aggressive.

Last 3 pics were my before and after test spot of 520.

What say you mike...whats your thoughts

Hi Opie,

I've heard of people having good luck removing these types of water stains off of and out of the paint via one of the below options.

1: Park the car outside in bright sunlight on a hot day. With enough exposure, the heat from the sun should evaporate the water off of and/or out of the paint.

2: Use a hair dryer or a heat gun to warm the paint up and evaporate the water off of and/or out of the paint.

I've documented this type of water spots in past car detailing how-to books, (see page 34 in both books)

Here's the picture, (same picture in both books) the same pictures you'll see in an article I wrote years ago and am re-writing a fresh version for a new article on the topic of water spots.

Here's the whitish looking stain left by water that pooled on old single stage red paint.

If exposing the paint to hot temperatures via parking the car in bright, overhead sunlight, or using a hair dryer or a heat gun does not work, the only other option is to do some form of paint correction.

And of course, always use the least aggressive process to get the job done.

It's possible by massaging the #7 Show Car Glaze into the paint and allowing it to penetrate and dwell that this "may" help or assist the water to move out of the paint via capillary action.

Of nothing else, the TS oils in this product will do what they are intended to do and that is bring out the full richness of color in the pigments, which would also help.
