As auto manufacturers find ways to cut costs, paint being one of them, this is why protecting a vehicle's paint is more important than ever. This is a new Subaru I worked on this past Friday. The paint before clear coat is less thick than a post-it note at 1.8mils. The post-it note is measuring at 2.6. Overall the paint is 3.4-4.1mils on the rest of the vehicle. That's still only 1.6-2.3mils of clear coat on the vehicle. LESS thick than the thickness of the post-it note in my hand.
