2022 Camaro RS LT
While one half of the class is doing the SAME 2-step process to the Chevelle, the other half of the class is doing this 2-step process to this Camaro. Not a lot of acton pictures for this car, but the results speak for themselves.

Step 1: Our Test Spot showed us the factory paint on this Camaro to be a tick on the soft side. We were able to remove a majority of all defects using only a Buff and Shine white foam polishing/finishing pad with Dr. Beasley's NSP 150.

full

Step 2: After using the NSP 150 with white foam polishing pads on gear-driven orbital to remove the swirls and scratches, next up the class switches over to NSP 95 with the Buff and Shine black foam finishing pads.

Topic 3 - 1-Step Ceramic AIO
Next up, the class is going to learn how to do a 1-Step Ceramic AIO and for this portion of the class, we have two cars, a 2024 Lotus Emira and a 1962 Chevy Impala with the original single stage paint. This is also the same 1962 Impala that the class removed all the ACID ETCHING from the glass on Friday.

Bath time
Before the class started, someone has to wash all the cars. I don't like taking up class time for washing cars, so I do it myself and honestly, it's very relaxing washing a Lotus Emira!

He's been helping me to move cars around for 17 years now and I truly appreciate it as I cannot drive a manual shift car due to my artificial leg.

Our Classes Start Early! And the Start ON TIME!
I don't know about other classes in the world, most of them that I've been a part of, (not in charge of), tend to start around the crack-of-noon. We cover too many tool, topics and techniques and the ONLY way to get it all done is to start early. I request each student get here at 7:00am to enjoy some hot coffee and fresh donuts and at 7:30am it's GO TIME!

How to install a ceramic coating to PPF
The front clip on this Lotus, plus the roof, A-pillars and B-pillars are all protected with PPF. Here's Cam, an Instructor for Dr. Beasley's teaching the students how to first prep the PPF and then apply a protective ceramic coating. His assistant for this topic is my good friend, and alumni class member, Corey Richland at Right Choice Auto Spa.

full

Step 1: Wipe all PPF using Film Cleanser to clean it and prep it for the coating.
Always pre-inspect anything that will touch the PPF to avoid accidental marring.

Step 2: Install the ceramic coating

1-Step Ceramic AIO Paint Correction
The class has covered a LOT of different topics so far and each topic covers a different approach if you're a Do-it-Yourselfer and if you detail cars for a business, then this would be a detailing menu package. The goal of a 1-Step Ceramic AIO Paint Correction process is to restore the shine and gloss while adding protection. The goal is NOT to go after 100% defect removal. If a person wants to remove all or the majority of paint defects then that would be the first topic we cover, Show Car Detailing, or the second topic we cover, 2-Step Paint Correction & Ceramic Coating.

Which approach you use on your own cars, (do-it-yourselfers), or which package you offer your customers, (detail business), simply depends on the goal and the budget.

Here's the ONLY PowerPoint slide for this topic and these two cars. Students can simply take a picture of the slide to help them remember the tools, pads and products.

It's now 8:20am and it's GO TIME!

Something Old and Something New!
Both cars are getting the 1-Step Ceramic AIO Paint Correction process. For the 2024 Lotus Emira, it's only for the pained body panels, not anything with PPF. For the 1962 Impala the class is carefully machine polishing the original, single stage paint, which is so thin in places you can see primer. Thus the reason to be careful and thus the reason to only do ONE STEP.

Here's Mark putting some Z1 onto the face of a Buff and Shine EdgeGuard white foam polishing pad.

My Guess
I'm just going to guess that Dr. Beasley's is the FIRST car detailing class to bring in a super cool 2024 Lotus Emira for students t train on. Just a guess.

As you can see, there are super thin areas where you can actually see the primer starting to show through. There are also raised body lines and edges where the paint is completely missing. And there are at least two spots on the passenger side of the hood where there's bare metal exposed and this bare steel is rusting.

While some people might think this will not make a great training car, I think the exact opposite. The people in the class are learning how to tackle cars in such condition and they are also LEARNING that we as detailers, cannot fix everything. BUT we can take what we have to work with to its highest potential.

Wait until you see the final results.
